Managing your licenses
You can activate GravityKit licenses by connecting the site to your GravityKit account or by entering a license key. We recommend connecting: you choose licenses from a list instead of copying keys, and you can manage the site’s licenses from your account later.
Both start in the Licenses section at the top of the Manage Your Kit page. To open it in WordPress, go to GravityKit, then Manage Your Kit.
Connect your GravityKit account #
- On Manage Your Kit, click Connect Account in the Licenses section. The button reads Connect GravityKit Account on a site with no license yet.
- Sign in to your GravityKit account if asked. The authorization page opens on gravitykit.com.
- Check that the address at the top of the page is your site.
- Under Choose licenses to activate on this site, select the licenses you want. Licenses already active on the site are selected for you, unless they have expired.
- Under Site access, choose what the site’s administrators can do. Full self-service is selected by default, and the levels are explained below.
- Click the Connect & Activate button. Its label includes the number of licenses you selected, for example Connect & Activate 2 Licenses. With no license selected, it reads Connect Only.
WordPress then opens Manage Your Kit again with the selected licenses active. A link icon next to a license name shows that the license is managed through the connection.

Licenses that were active before you connected
If a license from the account you are connecting is already active on the site, for example because you entered its key, the authorization page selects it for you.
- Leave it selected to manage it through the connection. It keeps its current activation, so it doesn’t use another one.
- Clear it to deactivate it on the site when you connect. On a Multisite network connection, clearing it leaves the license active as it was, outside the connection.
A license you bring under the connection this way is deactivated if you disconnect the site later.
Choose what the site’s administrators can do #
The Site access setting decides what the connected site’s administrators can do with the licenses in your account. You choose it when you connect, and you can change it later: pick a new level on the site’s card in Connected Sites and click Update access.

Note: The access level limits only what the site’s administrators can do. From your account, you can always change which licenses are active on the site.
Enter a license key manually #
You can activate a license without connecting the site.
- In your GravityKit account, copy the license key from the Licenses page.
- On Manage Your Kit, click Enter a license key manually. If the site already has a license and isn’t connected, the key field is open below the license table.
- Paste the key and click Activate License.
The license then appears in the table with its status and expiration date.
A saved key that isn’t active for this site, for example after the site moves to a new address, shows an Activate link in its row. Licenses that can no longer be used, such as expired ones, show Remove instead of Deactivate.
Add a key for an installed but unlicensed product
If an installed product has no license, its card shows I have a license key. Click it, paste the key, and click Activate.
To buy a license, use Purchase License in the Licenses section.
The Third Party section lists products from other developers that GravityKit sells, such as Image Hopper. Their cards accept only a key bought from GravityKit. A key bought from the developer’s own website goes in that product’s settings, as Is Image Hopper included in All Access? explains for Image Hopper.
Frequently asked questions #
Does connecting use up an activation?
Connecting by itself doesn’t use an activation. Each license you activate on the site uses one, the same as when you enter its key. A license that is already active on the site doesn’t use a second one when the connection takes it over.
What can the connection do with my account?
The site can activate and deactivate licenses within its access level, and download product updates. It can also store its GravityKit settings in your account. It can’t sign in to your GravityKit account or change billing, and it can’t see your other connected sites. GravityKit.com can’t use the connection to sign in to your WordPress site or change its content, plugins, or settings.
Do development sites use up activations?
Sites that GravityKit recognizes as local or development sites don’t count against a license’s site limit, and the authorization page says so when you connect one. See Development websites and GravityKit licenses for the addresses that qualify.
