    Managing Your Licenses

    Estimated reading: 6 minutes

    Updated on July 23, 2026

GravityKit provides two ways to activate and manage product licenses on your WordPress site:

    • Connect your GravityKit account (recommended): Link the site to your account and activate licenses without copying and pasting license keys. You can manage the site and its licenses from either WordPress or your GravityKit account.
    • Enter a license key manually: Paste an individual license key into WordPress. This option remains available if you prefer to manage licenses separately on each site.

Connecting your account is the simplest option, especially if you manage multiple GravityKit products or move a site to a new domain or server.

    Open the Licenses screen #

In your WordPress Admin, go to GravityKit > Manage Your Kit, then open the Licenses section.

GravityKit menu in the WordPress admin sidebar with Manage Your Kit highlighted

From this screen, you can connect your GravityKit account, review active licenses, activate additional licenses, refresh license information, or enter a license key manually.

Note: License management works differently on WordPress Multisite. See the section on managing licenses on Multisite later in this article.

    Connect your GravityKit account #

Connecting creates a secure link between this WordPress site and your GravityKit account. You approve the connection on GravityKit.com and choose which licenses the site should use.

    1. On the Manage Your Kit screen, click Connect Account.
    2. Sign in to GravityKit.com if prompted.
    3. Review the site requesting access. The authorization screen explains what the connection allows and what it does not allow.
    4. Select the licenses you want to activate on the site. Licenses that are already active on the site are selected automatically.
    5. Choose the site’s access level under Site access (the levels are described in the next section).
    6. Click Connect & Activate [number] Licenses. The button displays the number of licenses that will be activated. If you do not select any licenses, click Connect Only instead.

You are returned to WordPress after approval. The selected licenses are activated automatically; you do not need to copy or paste their keys.

Licenses that were active before you connected

If you previously activated a license on the site by entering its key, and that license belongs to the account you are connecting, it appears pre-selected when you connect:

    • Leave it selected to manage it through the account connection. The existing activation is adopted, so it does not use a second activation.
    • Clear it to deactivate that license on this site when the connection is completed. On a Multisite network connection, clearing it instead leaves the existing activation exactly as it was, outside the connection.

After a manually activated license is adopted by the connection, it is managed in the same way as any other connected license. It will be deactivated if you later disconnect the site.

Choose what the site’s administrators can do #

The Site access setting controls what administrators on the connected WordPress site can do with the licenses in your account. You can choose an access level when connecting and change it later from the Connected Sites page in your GravityKit account.

View only. The site displays only the licenses you assign to it. Its administrators cannot activate or deactivate account-managed licenses, but they can still activate another license by entering its key manually.

Manage assigned licenses. The site’s administrators can activate or deactivate licenses that you have assigned to the site. They cannot browse or activate other licenses in your account.

Full self-service. The site’s administrators can browse and activate any available license in your account. This is the best option for sites you own or fully manage.

Note: The access level applies only to actions initiated from the connected WordPress site. As the account owner, you can always manage the site’s licenses from your GravityKit account.

Once connected, you manage the site and its licenses from the site’s Licenses screen or from your account. That day-to-day side (activating more licenses, migrating, disconnecting, troubleshooting) is covered in Managing Connected Sites.

Enter a license key manually #

You can activate licenses without connecting your account.

If no license is active, click Enter a license key manually on the Manage Your Kit screen, paste the key from your GravityKit Account, and click Activate License. The same link is available on a connected site. If the key you enter belongs to the account the site is connected to, that license becomes managed through the connection, and it is deactivated if you later disconnect.

After activation, the Licenses section shows the license status and expiration date, along with the available management action.

Add a key for an installed but unlicensed product

If an installed GravityKit product does not have a license, click I have a license key on its card, paste the key, and click Activate. If you do not have a valid license, use the Purchase License button at the top of the Licenses section.

Managing licenses on WordPress Multisite #

On a Multisite network, account connections and licenses can be managed at two separate levels:

    • A Network Administrator can connect the network from the main site’s Network Admin. Licenses activated through this connection apply network-wide.
    • An administrator of an individual subsite can create a separate connection for that subsite. That connection applies only to the subsite.

The network and subsite connections are independent. A subsite administrator cannot see or manage the network connection, and a network-managed license cannot be deactivated from an individual subsite.

For additional information, see Multisite and GravityKit licenses.

    Frequently asked questions #

Do I still need to use license keys after connecting?

No. Licenses managed through the connection are activated without copying and pasting their keys. Manual key activation remains available.

Does connecting use an additional activation?

Connecting does not itself consume an activation. Activating a license on the site uses one activation, just as manual key activation does. If a license is already active on that site and you adopt it into the connection, it does not use a second activation.

Can a connected site access my GravityKit account?

No. The connection does not allow the site to sign in to your account, change billing information, or see your other connected sites.

Can GravityKit access my WordPress Admin through the connection?

No. Connecting does not allow GravityKit.com to sign in to WordPress or change the site’s content, plugins, or settings.

Do local or development sites use up activations?

No. Local and development sites are recognized automatically, and their activations do not count against your license’s site limit. The authorization screen tells you when the site you are connecting is treated as a development site.

Can I connect without activating a license?

Yes. Clear all licenses on the authorization screen and click Connect Only. You can assign licenses later from Connected Sites or, if the site’s access level permits it, from WordPress.
