Connect your AI assistant to GravityKit’s documentation
AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot answer questions from what they learned during training, which can be months or years out of date. GravityKit runs a free MCP server that gives your assistant live access to our documentation, product details, changelogs, blog, and GravityKit Academy courses. Once it’s connected, your assistant looks up the current answer on gravitykit.com instead of guessing.
Note: This server reads GravityKit’s public content only. To let an AI assistant work with the forms and entries on your own site, use GravityKit MCP instead.
What is an MCP server? #
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools and data sources. An MCP server is one of those sources. When you connect GravityKit’s server, your assistant can search and read gravitykit.com while it writes its answer, and it can link you to the pages it used.
The server address is https://mcp.gravitykit.com/. It’s free, and it doesn’t need an account, a license key, or an API key. It can’t see or change anything on your website.
What your assistant can look up #
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
search | Searches all public GravityKit content at once: docs, blog posts, product pages, changelogs, case studies, FAQs, comparisons, and Academy lessons |
search_docs | Searches the documentation only, optionally filtered by product or category |
get_doc | Reads one documentation article in full |
search_blog, get_blog_post | Searches the blog and reads one post, including weekly launch logs |
search_courses | Searches GravityKit Academy for step-by-step courses that build a complete project |
list_products, get_product | Lists every GravityKit product, or returns one product’s current version, requirements, starting price, and related docs |
get_changelog | Returns release notes for a product, for one version, or for everything since a version or date |
ask_docsbot | Asks GravityKit’s DocsBot, the AI assistant in the chat widget on gravitykit.com, and returns its answer with sources |
get_content | Reads any public gravitykit.com page by URL, such as a pricing page or a comparison |
You don’t call these tools yourself. Ask your question in plain words, and the assistant chooses the tool.
Connect the server to your AI assistant #
Pick the tool you use. Each setup takes about a minute.
Claude (web, desktop, and Cowork)
Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, including Free. Free plans are limited to one custom connector.
- In Claude, go to Customize, then click Connectors.
- Click +, then click Add custom connector.
- Enter a name, such as
GravityKit. - In the URL field, paste
https://mcp.gravitykit.com/. - Click Add. You don’t need to fill in the OAuth settings under Advanced settings.
To use the connector in a conversation, click + in the message box, choose Connectors, and make sure GravityKit is turned on.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector once for everyone:
- Go to Organization settings, then click Connectors.
- Click Add, hover over Custom, and select Web.
- Paste
https://mcp.gravitykit.com/and click Add.
Members then go to Customize, click Connectors, find GravityKit, and click Connect.
Claude Code
Run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http gravitykit https://mcp.gravitykit.com/This adds the server to the current project. To make it available in every project, add --scope user before the name. Run claude mcp list to confirm it shows as connected.
Cursor
Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json (for all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json in your project folder (for one project), and add the server:
{
"mcpServers": {
"gravitykit": {
"url": "https://mcp.gravitykit.com/"
}
}
}Save the file. The server appears in Cursor’s MCP settings.
VS Code (GitHub Copilot)
Create .vscode/mcp.json in your project folder, or open your user configuration with the MCP: Open User Configuration command, and add the server. VS Code uses servers as the top-level key, not mcpServers:
{
"servers": {
"gravitykit": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.gravitykit.com/"
}
}
}Other AI tools
Any tool that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP can connect. Look for a setting named Connectors, MCP servers, or Tools, and enter https://mcp.gravitykit.com/ as the server URL. No authentication is needed.
Questions to ask #
Once the server is connected, ask the questions you’d ask our support team. These examples show the kinds of questions it handles.
Set up a feature
“How do I let logged-in users edit only their own entries in GravityView?”
The assistant searches the documentation, reads the matching article in full, and answers from it with a link.
Check what changed before you update
“I’m running GravityView 2.30. What has changed since then, and does anything affect Edit Entry?”
The assistant pulls every release after your version and summarizes the parts that apply to you.
Check requirements
“Does GravityCalendar work with PHP 7.4 and Gravity Forms 2.8?”
The assistant reads the product’s current requirements for WordPress, PHP, Gravity Forms, and GravityView.
Build a complete project
“Walk me through building a member directory with Gravity Forms and GravityView.”
The assistant finds the matching GravityKit Academy course and follows its lessons step by step.
Choose products before you buy
“I need a job board where employers post listings and applicants can filter them. Which GravityKit products do I need, and what do they cost?”
The assistant reads product pages, starting prices, and use-case pages, and links to them.
Tips for better answers #
- Name the product when you know it. “How do I add a map to a GravityView View?” returns more precise results than “How do I add a map?”
- Include your version numbers when you ask about updates or compatibility.
- Ask the assistant to link its sources, so you can check the page it answered from.
- If the assistant says the documentation doesn’t cover something, ask it to check with DocsBot. DocsBot answers can take 10 to 30 seconds.
Note: The assistant can only read GravityKit’s public content. For help with your license, your account, or a problem on your own site, contact support.
For developers: add the developer docs server #
If you write code against GravityKit products, connect the GravityKit Developer Docs MCP too. It answers from the GravityKit developer reference: action and filter hooks, PHP classes and functions with their full signatures, the version each one was added in, merge tag syntax and modifiers, and GravityView CSS design tokens.
The two servers split the work. mcp.gravitykit.com covers how to use the products, and mcp.gravitykit.dev covers how to code against them. With both connected, your assistant can answer a question such as “Which filter changes the entry slug in GravityView, and which version added it?”
