GravityView adds five blocks to the WordPress block editor, for Views, entries, fields, entry links, and View details.

## Blocks added by GravityView

Type `GravityView` in the block inserter's search to list them:

- **GravityView Entry**: Shows one entry from a View, like the [`[gventry]` shortcode](https://www.gravitykit.com/docs/gravityview/shortcodes/gventry-shortcode/).
- **GravityView Entry Field**: Shows one field value from an entry, like the [`[gvfield]` shortcode](https://www.gravitykit.com/docs/gravityview/shortcodes/gvfield-embed-gravity-forms-field-values/).
- **GravityView Entry Link**: Shows a link to view, edit, or delete an entry, like the [`[gv_entry_link]` shortcode](https://www.gravitykit.com/docs/gravityview/shortcodes/gv-entry-link/).
- **GravityView View Details**: Shows a number about a View, such as its number of entries or its page size, like the `[gravityview]` shortcode with the `detail` parameter. [Using the GravityView View Details block](https://www.gravitykit.com/docs/gravityview/using-the-gravityview-view-details-block/) covers it.

## Embedding Views using a block

To embed a View, add the **GravityView View** block to your page and choose the View from its dropdown.

To preview the View in the editor, turn on **Preview**![The block editor previewing the Club members View as a table, with the block's Main Settings in the sidebar and the Preview toggle turned on and outlined](https://www.gravitykit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/gravityview-view-block-preview.png)The block's settings are in the panel on the right. **Main Settings** holds the View, an **Edit View** link that opens it in the View editor, and **Preview**. Under **Entries Settings** you can set a date range. Under **Extra Settings** you can set the sort field and direction, filter with a search, add a CSS class, and change the single entry page's title and back link label. It also holds the page size and the offset. These settings match the main parameters of the [`[gravityview]` shortcode](https://www.gravitykit.com/docs/gravityview/shortcodes/using-the-shortcode/)
The search settings filter the View by a **Search Field**, a **Search Value**, and a **Search Operator**. When the **Search Value** is a merge tag that can come out empty, such as `{get:dept}` on a page address with no `dept` parameter, **When Search Value is empty** decides what the block shows. Choose **Show no entries** or **Show all entries**. A new block starts at **Show no entries** once you choose its View (GravityView 3.8.0 or newer).

A Map layout shows "Map is not available in the Block preview" in place of the map.

## Embedding entries using a block

To embed a single entry, add the **GravityView Entry** block to your page, choose the View, and enter the entry's ID. You can also enter `first` or `last` for the first or last entry the View lists. The block shows the entry with the fields of the View's Single Entry layout.

![The GravityView Entry block with Club members (#259) under View and 1137 under Entry ID](https://www.gravitykit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/gravityview-entry-block-settings.png)To find an entry's ID, open the form's entries in Gravity Forms and click **View** under the entry. The **Entry** box on the right shows the **Entry Id**. You can also add the **Entry ID** field to a View to show each entry's ID.

## Embedding fields using a block

To embed a single field, add the **GravityView Entry Field** block to your page and set the View, the entry ID, and the field ID. The entry ID can be `first` or `last` here too, and the field doesn't have to be one the View shows.

To find a field's ID, open the form in the Gravity Forms editor and click the field. The ID shows at the top of **Field Settings**![Field Settings in the Gravity Forms editor for a Single Line Text field labeled Sport, with its ID: 3 badge outlined](https://www.gravitykit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/gravity-forms-field-id.png)

## Previewing a block as a shortcode

Each GravityView block has a **Preview As Shortcode** option in the **Advanced** panel of its settings.

When it is on, the editor shows the block as its shortcode, with the settings you chose. Use it to troubleshoot the preview, or copy the shortcode to use elsewhere on your site. The secret shows as asterisks, so on a View with Enhanced Security, put the View's own secret in its place.
