# A license your agency manages: what it means for you

If a web agency looks after your site, they may manage your GravityKit licenses for you. This article is for you, the client, and it covers what you see on your GravityKit account, what you can do with a managed license, and the emails your agency can send you through GravityKit.

## Licenses marked Managed by

On your **Licenses** page, a license your agency assigned to you is marked **MANAGED BY** followed by the agency’s name.

With a managed license you can:

- See the license key, and copy it.
- Download the plugins it covers from the **Downloads** page and install them on your site.
- Activate the license on your sites, and see those sites under your account.

You cannot renew or upgrade the license yourself. The agency owns it and pays for it. Renewals, invoices and refunds are on their account.

## Setting up your account

Your agency may have invited you to set up a GravityKit account. The invitation email is signed with their name and carries a link that works once and for seven days. Follow it to a page headed **Set up your account**, choose a password and click **Create my account**. If the link has expired, ask your agency to send a new one.

You may never need an account at all. Your agency can buy for you, assign licenses to you and even hand a license over to your email address without one. The account is what lets you see and use the licenses yourself.

## Emails your agency can send you

Your agency can send three kinds of link through GravityKit. Each comes from GravityKit, is signed with the agency’s name, and works once:

- **A payment link** asks you to pay for a renewal of a license the agency owns. It opens a checkout locked to that one renewal, at the price the agency was quoted, card only. No account is created for you, the license stays with the agency, and you receive a confirmation after paying.
- **A card-update link** asks you to put your card on a subscription the agency holds. You enter a card on a GravityKit page; nothing is charged until the next renewal, and only the card changes.
- **A transfer offer** offers to hand a license over to you for good. Nothing happens until you click **Yes, it is mine now** on the page it opens; you can also click **No, I do not want it**.

If you are not sure a link is genuine, check that it opens on gravitykit.com and that the agency named on the page is yours. A link that has been used or has expired says so.

## When a license is handed over to you

If you accept a transfer, the license, the order it was bought on and your site activations become yours. It appears on your Licenses page with its full key. You renew it from your own account from then on, and any subscription the agency had on it stops, while nothing changes on your sites.

Your agency may keep the license listed on their side so they can still see it. That does not give them control over it. Only you can hand it back, by transferring it to them.

## When your agency stops working with you

If your agency removes you as a client, you receive an email that they closed your client account. Any license they own that was assigned to you leaves your account. Your login and anything you bought yourself are untouched. Any license they handed over to you stays yours.
